GIG – New Desert Blues at The Joiners – Saturday 8th March 2014

new desert bluesFrom the South Coast of England, away from the glare of the capital, New Desert Blues have been carefully concocting Noire-infused, harmony-laden soundscapes since 2012, now possessing an arsenal of songs the next year looks to be a special one for the band.
Following from the release of their debut single ‘Adam’ the band return with their first Extended Play, the engrossing ‘Devil’s Rope’, in January 2014 which features the band’s cinematic second single ‘Zachary’. Names have been given to songs as if characters of a story, the band have created a world within which these stories intertwine and their records serve as concise pieces of musical storytelling. ‘Devil’s Rope’ is the product of their recent sessions at London’s legendary RAK Studios where the band found themselves holed up for most of October.
Together with RAK’s Isabel Seeliger-Morley they pieced together their debut EP, acting as co-producers the band put the time in to ensure that down to the finest detail, that their work was properly realised. The band, who are heavily invested in the project’s visual accompaniments, co-direct, write and shoot their music videos with the recent unveiling of the two part ‘Adam’/’Zachary’ showing a band equally at home behind the lens as they are in the studio or on a stage.
Live, the band are really starting to cut their teeth, with their first London headline show announced for early 2014 at London’s St Pancras Old Church. Following attention-grabbing support slots with Peace and Wolf Alice as well as a successful showing at Brighton’s Great Escape Festival Autumn 2013 saw the band make their first foray into the European circuit opening for Aussie Psych collective Cloud Control as well as one off shows with Editors and Germany’s Reeperbahn festival.
Championed by BBC introducing, the band have enjoyed substantial Radio1 coverage from the likes of Zane Lowe (Next Hype) and Huw Stephens (Introducing Track of the Week?). Strongly supported elsewhere by the likes of Radio 2 and XFM, the band’s songs sound at home on the airwaves. With the release of ‘Devil’s Rope’ and a recently announced trip to the historic SXSW festival, 2014 is the year where New Desert Blues ascend to the heady heights their music deserves.
